North Shoebury

Innovative wet verge systems

Shoebury is one of the driest places in the UK . We are planning to use the inner area of a roundabout to store highway runoff via kerb drains creating an inverted style roundabout with planted swales to store, filter and infiltrate surface water runoff.

We had also wanted to work with local landowners to achieve mutual benefits using water and land management.

By having healthier soils we can keep water on the land for longer. This is not only good for growing crops but also improves flood resilience by reducing surface water runoff. This also improves water quality because water is filtered slowly over time by the land.
