Here we hope to work with the allotment society to reduce the amount of main water used to water crops. This will not only improve drought resilience and flood resilience of the area but also reduce the cost of their water bill!
We are currently investigating available options but we hope to divert water from the surface water networks during rainfall, store and treat it and make it available for allotment holders to use.
We have a weather station in place and monitoring equipment in the surface water network.
The water quality will be tested and treated to ensure it is good enough to be re-used on people’s vegetable plots.
Treatment will be by innovative nature-based solutions involving bio and sand filters.
These measures will further reduce the pressure on the surface water network, and Prittle Brook. In turn this will make the area more flood resilient downstream.
