High tides cause disruption that make Princess Margaret Road impassable. Visual flood warning beacons will improve understanding of flood risk. The beacons will be tied to local data gathering equipment and be promoted on social media and other platforms.
We want to co-design flood warning beacons with local residents to alert people about flooding.
Various monitoring equipment will be deployed to act as a trigger for the warning beacons. This will include monitoring water depth, wind, wave and even suspended sediment: the amount of sand and mud in the water, which has an effect on road conditions.
