Shoebury Farmland
Regenerative Agriculture & Innovative Wet Verge Systems
Overview
Shoebury is one of the driest places in the UK and we want to work with local landowners to achieve mutual benefits surrounding water and land management.
By having healthier soils we can keep water on the land for longer which is not only good for growing crops but also improves flood resilience by reducing surface water runoff, this also improves water quality.
This is one of three sites that might have leaky-dams with mycelium being installed. By repeating this measure, it may give us a comparison of how applicable they are at different sites when we evaluate the project. This is important as the project will be used as a pilot to inform future flood and coastal policy in the UK.
High-level modelling software called SCALGO-live will help determine the potential locations for the measures and predict changes in the natural flow of the water.
Stage monitors will record how these measures impact the natural flow of the water. A weather station will be installed locally and improvements in soil quality and health will also be measured.
