New Development
MicroSuDS on a new development
Overview
Here, we want to work with building developers to incorporate flood resilience measures into new houses. This might include making a best practice blueprint to install micro-SuDs that will reduce pressure on the drainage system by capturing and absorbing surface run-off.
Going forward this sites plans may change based on further engagement with the developers and aligning the project with their timeframes.
SuDs are a variety of water management tools designed to prevent flooding, improve water quality and benefit biodiversity by slowing surface run-off into sewers, drains and other watercourses. They are often based on natural structures such as ponds, swales and wetlands. Examples of other Micro-SuDS include green roofs on bin stores and sheds, rain gardens and water butts.
SuDs are Sustainable Drainage Systems
Swales are shallow and broad that encourage natural drainage. They have been used for generations to manage water. Evidence of old swales as long dried up mounds and ditches can be seen at historic forts and henges and all across our local woodlands!
