Leigh High Street
Enhancing seawalls using innovative nature based solutions to improve erosion resilience
Overview
This section of Leigh High Street, is a extremely narrow and sandwiched between the seawall and the mainline railway. Whilst being narrow, this road is used by large heavy vehicles travelling to and from Leigh Port. To maintain the road and prevent damage to the railway line this section of seawall is due to be improved.
Although traditional piling techniques will be used to upgrade the seawall, the Partnership want to investigate the opportunity for incorporating NbS within the design, helping to improve local biodiversity.
